The Elbe is steeped in history, with many a seafaring feat. During her active career, this ship has served in various guises and under different names all over the world. Starting out as a sea tug in 1959, the Elbe was converted into a pilot boat in 1976. From 1985, the environmental organisation Greenpeace used her as a campaign ship. Finally, she returned to the port where it all began in 2002 under her original name and with the Dutch flag flying.
